The latest tragic attack on police officers at a renowned Egyptian resort is another blow to Egypt’s beleaguered tourist economy. Executives in the industry have failed to take timely action.

At least four people have been killed and 12 others wounded in an attack on a police checkpoint in the Egyptian Suez Canal city of Ismailia, according to officials.

The assault, which took place on Friday afternoon, left three police officers and a still unidentified person dead, according to a hospital document obtained by The Associated Press news agency.

According to the document, most of the wounded are conscripts and have been taken to the hospital.

According to security officials, the attack took place on the western side of the Suez Canal, who spoke to AP anonymously because they were not authorised to brief the media.
